Despite originally launching ‘Google Photos’ with unlimited storage, Google has now confirmed that it will be applying a limit of 15GB per account. The move, which affects photo storage will also have an impact on other storage limits including email for example. Instead, users will now have to pay for one of the fixed price storage plans.
Google’s historic policy of storing a ‘lifetime of memories’ led to more than four trillion photos being stored on the service, with 28 billion photos and videos being uploaded every week. They are seeking to implement the storage limits in a bid to maintain the longevity of the site and manage its resilience.
The change will not come into effect until June 2021, and uploads made before this date will not count towards the limit.
